Welcome to Episode 32 of Songs That Donāt Suckāthe podcast where we donāt do filler, we donāt fake it, and we definitely donāt recommend songs that suck š§.
This week, host Mark Bradbourne opens the show with love for a rock legend whoās still kicking (and drumming), a PSA to indie artists about bios that donāt suck, and a few tour updates thatāll either fill you with joy or remind you to cherish your musical heroes while theyāre still here.
Letās get into it š
š„ Iron Maidenās Nico McBrain: From Stroke to Stage
Back in January, Iron Maidenās legendary drummerĀ Nicko McBrainĀ suffered aĀ strokeāsomething fans didnāt know at the time. When early tour performances seemed off, the internet (as it does) jumped to judgment.
But now? Nicoās back in full form.
āThe internet is never not judgmental⦠but Nicko is a machine. A legend. And heās crushing it again.ā
Hereās to recovery, resilience, and rocking at 71 š¤
šø The Wild Feathers Revisit Their RootsāUnplugged
To mark the 10-year anniversary of their debut album, Nashville rockers The Wild Feathers have re-recorded itāthis time, stripped down and unplugged, exclusively available on Bandcamp.
Mark first stumbled onto them back in 2015 in Milwaukee, and theyāve been on his radar ever since.
āLive albums are the best way to meet a bandāand this unplugged version? Chefās kiss.ā
š§ Sir Paul, Still Rocking at 81
Rumor has it that Paul McCartney might be gearing up for an international tour. And Markās here for it.
āI saw Ringo in college, but Iāve never seen Paulāand based on recent videos, he can still bring it.ā
š If Sir Paul hits the States, itās go time.
š§ Brain-Bending Cover: The Dip ā Beautiful Stranger (Madonna)
You might remember Madonnaās āBeautiful Strangerā from Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. Now, Seattle-based soul revivalists The Dip have given it a warm, R&B-laced rework.
Think The Temptations meets Alabama Shakes with a splash of Shaky Graves. Itās smooth, unexpected, and totally vibey.
āThis one surprised meāin the best way.ā

š¶ This Weekās New Music: A Rock-Forward Lineup That Slaps
Mark listened to hundreds of songs this week and narrowed it down to five that cleared the barāand then some.
1. šŖ Brenn! ā āValparaisoā
š Genre: Folky Indie Pop
š Vibe: Summer drives, Vance Joy energy
At just 18, Brenn! delivers an acoustic-driven track with a breezy hook and serious earworm potential. Itās vibey, itās heartfelt, and itās made for warm weather.
But Mark has a PSA for new artists:
āIf youāre releasing music, write a proper bio. Please. Iām begging.ā
(Seriously though.)
2. šø Wilco ā āEvictedā
š Genre: Alt-Country
š§ Vibe: Classic Wilco meets… Prince?
Mark admits he never fully āgotā Wilcoāuntil he stumbled on a live cut of The Art of Almost. Now? Heās paying attention. āEvictedā is the first single off their upcoming album, and itās classic Wilco: melodic, mellow, and subtly powerful.
āTell me Iām wrong, but the rhythm in that verse sounds a LOT like Raspberry Beret.ā
š You wonāt un-hear it.
3. šµ The Pale White ā āValidate Meā
š Genre: Alt Rock / UK Indie
šø Vibe: Big riffs, slight meander, satisfying payoff
Newcastle trio The Pale White serve up a crunchy guitar track that brings early-2000s alt energy with a modern gloss. The bridge does meander a bit, but it lands strong.
āIf this gets tightened live, itās gonna blow the roof off.ā
4. š¤ Momrock ā āClose Your Eyesā
š Genre: Indie Rock
š Vibe: Festival-ready bounce
This Boston-based band has a name that suggests dad jokesābut their sound is no joke. āClose Your Eyesā has a killer pre-chorus that launches into a stadium-worthy hook.
āNo frills. No tricks. Just great rock.ā
Also: props for actually having a working website.š
5. š¤ The Rolling People ā āDisguiseā
š Genre: Modern Rock
šø Vibe: Youthful polish with vintage depth
At just 18, this UK band already sounds like theyāve been writing anthems for a decade. The songwriting is tight, the productionās on point, and the potential is massive.
āIf rockās gonna rise again, we need more of this. Period.ā

š§ Final Thoughts
This week had everything: soul covers, indie comebacks, crunchy rock, and even a soapbox rant about artist bios. But most of all? It had songs that donāt suck.
āMusic discovery is the heart of this podāand the reason we keep digging through garbage to find the gold.ā
š§ Until next week…
Keep searching forāand listening toāsongs that donāt suck.
