Markâs back with a double dose of new music from the last two weeksâand a killer cover mashup to boot.
đ Back in Action: Welcome to the Second Half of 2023!
If you missed Episode 27, Mark dropped his Top 10 tracks of the year (so far). Definitely worth a listen if youâre just catching up after the July 4th break đșđž. But now itâs time for new musicâand Mark’s making up for lost time with a list of eight killer tracks from the past two weeks.
But first, as always…
đ§ Brain-Bending Cover of the Week
đ„ŁÂ The Real McCoys â âA Whole Lot of Folsomâ
Led Zeppelinâs âWhole Lotta Loveâ meets Johnny Cashâs âFolsom Prison Bluesâ in the weirdest, coolest way.
A mashup and a cover, this genre-bending track is funky, gritty, and full of surprises. Itâs also a throwback to Markâs pandemic-era playlist of unique coversânow clocking in at over 7 hours.

đ¶ This Weekâs Featured Tracks (x8!)
đ€ 1. The Struts â âToo Good at Raisinâ Hellâ
Big riffs. Bigger swagger. Pure rock spectacle.
Markâs seen them live (opening for Foo Fighters), and they stole the crowd. This oneâs built for the stage.
âThe Struts just might save rock and rollâand this track proves it.â
đȘ 2. Fox Royale â âSo Differentâ
Indie-pop sunshine with a hint of Cage the Elephant charm.
Mark caught them liveâshirtless in freezing Clevelandâand they killed it.
âThis is bop-around-your-house music. Put it on and try not to smile.â
đž 3. Dirty Honey â âWonât Take Me Aliveâ
Classic rock riffs, raw vocals, and an irresistible hook.
Reminiscent of their breakout hit âWhen Iâm Gone,â but dialed up.
âAs a drummer, I love the hi-hat groove. As a fan, I just want to sing the chorus over and over.â
đ§ 4. Hollows â âThe Floorâ
British alt-rock with a cool, early-days polish.
Reminds Mark of previous fave âMystic Pizzaâ by The Sheritons.
âNot flashyâbut solid, addictive indie goodness.â
đ” 5. The Glorious Sons â âMercy Mercyâ
Not as gritty as their breakout hit âSOS,â but deeper, smoother, and maybe more mature.
âAlongside The Struts and Dirty Honey, these guys could really lead the rock revival.â
đž 6. Brad â âHey Now Whatâs the Problemâ
Grunge revival with true ’90s Seattle roots.
A side project of Pearl Jamâs Stone Gossardâand it sounds like it.
âThis is textbook Seattle sound. Think early Soundgarden with a looser groove.â
â 7. High Fade â âBurnt Toast and Coffeeâ
Funk rock done right. Tight bass, syncopated drums, and no guitar backing track during the solo = chefâs kiss.
âThis couldâve been early Chili Peppers or Jamiroquai. If you love grooves, do not skip this.â
đ 8. Back to Yours â âI Must Be Confusedâ
Power-pop bliss with Jellyfish and Beatles DNA.
Surprising chords, lush harmonies, and a musical journey you wonât want to end.
âThis one gave me chills. Like, actual chills.â
đ§ Whatâs the Theme Here?
A quiet movement is brewing. Between The Struts, Dirty Honey, Brad, and The Glorious Sons, rock music isnât deadâitâs just been napping.
âMaybe this is the push. Maybe rock is waking up again. Iâm here for it.â
